In 2010, with the aid of leading-edge cluster funding made available by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung – BMBF), Greater Munich’s university hospitals and scientific institutes joined forces with the aim of developing a joint biobank network, namely the m4 Biobank Alliance, and implementing it successfully in the long term.
